Winemaker, Nepenthe Wines
James Evers’ vision and commitment to creating premium wine is epitomised in the Nepenthe portfolio. With nearly 23 vintages under his belt, James delights in the winemaking process and loves working with raw grapes to ultimately produce a bottle which shows the merits of his dedication to premium wines.
James developed an appreciation for wine through his family’s association with the industry, and whose taste and passion for good wine naturally led him to a career as a winemaker.
Beginning his career at Jamiesons Run Winery in Coonawarra as a Lab Manager, James learnt the fundamentals of winemaking before moving to Glendonbrook Wines in the Hunter Valley. Here he gained invaluable experience as an Assistant Winemaker, before undertaking the challenging role of Operations Winemaker at Rothbury Winery in the Hunter Valley. Following 14 vintages, James had gained significant experience across all aspects of winemaking, from the delicate vintage process to the bottling of his wines.
James’ current role as Winemaker for Nepenthe Wines in the Adelaide Hills follows years in the role of Senior Winemaker for McGuigan Wines. The role allowed James to nurture and develop premium wines, ensuring that first-class fruit was picked at the most optimal time during vintage, to ultimately deliver the best quality and most unique wines.
