Pinot Gris is perfectly suited to the Adelaide Hills, where the altitude of the vineyards moderates the climate, giving us cool conditions during the growing and ripening season.
Pinot Noir is known to be a fickle and difficult grape, in both growing and winemaking. However the variety is well-suited to the cool slopes and ancient soils of the Adelaide Hills.
Tempranillo is well-known as the great grape of the famous Spanish Rioja wines. It was virtually unheard of in the Adelaide Hills before Nepenthe planted Tempranillo vines at Charleston in 1998.
Cool climate Shiraz has been rapidly growing in reputation and popularity in the past few years. At Nepenthe we saw the potential for Shiraz in the Adelaide Hills when vines were planted at our Hahndorf vineyard in 1999.
