Savagnin
Experimenting with new varieties has become a tradition at Nepenthe, in the past we have had success with vines such as Pinot Gris, Tempranillo and Zinfandel. In 2005 we planted Savagnin at our vineyard in Hahndorf,
we originally believed the vines were the Spanish variety Albarino however DNA profiling done in 2009 showed that nearly all Albarino vines in Australia were actually Savagnin. The variety is well suited to the Hills with early budburst, thick skins and low to moderate yields which ensures ripening even in the coldest vintage.
