Pruning

Pruning forms one of the most costly but critical aspects to successful grape growing.

Nepenthe offer a range of cost effective options to suit all types of canopies and trellis systems. We also have experience hand pruning labour that depending on conditions can work on hourly rates or vine rates.

Machine Pruning:

Nepenthe have a fleet of 3 machine barrel pruners. Each machine has been modified to enable us to handle most canopies and conditions in the vineyard.

These consist of one tractor mounted and one self propelled pellenc barrel pruner ideal for VSP trellised vineyards.

In addition we posses another self propelled pellenc barrel pruner with ledgard cutter bars attached. This unit is ideal for single cordon aussie sprawl vineyards.

Our research and development team are currently developing a machine that enables you to pre prune before cane prune. Early trials indicate that a 30% saving could be made on this costly and labour intensive style of pruning.

Nepenthe are hopeful to be able to offer this service for the 2006 pruning season.

Hand Pruning:

Seasoned experienced pruners under quality supervision are available for all types of pruning. From machine clean out to spur pruning and cane pruning.
